CARIBOU, Maine — With warm weather and rain in the forecast in northern Maine on Friday, the National Weather Service is warning of flooding potential.
According to the weather service’s Caribou forecast center, flood watches are in effect from Thursday afternoon through Saturday morning for northern parts of the state.
The combination of rainfall and melting snow, particularly in Aroostook County and northern Penobscot, Somerset and Piscataquis counties, could create ice movement and the potential for river flooding.
Temperatures are expected to remain well into the 50s on Thursday and on Friday as well, according to the weather service.
The weather service’s Gray office has not posted any flood watches for southern parts of the state.
