Harvard University senior left winger and captain Jimmy Vesey was named the recipient of the Hobey Baker Award on Friday night in Tampa, Florida.
The award is given to the nation’s top Division I hockey player and is based on skill in all phases of the game, strength of character on and off the ice, sportsmanship and scholastic achievement.
Vesey was one of three Hat Trick finalists, along with University of Michigan freshman left wing Kyle Connor and Boston College junior goalie Thatcher Demko.
Vesey was a Hobey Baker Hat Trick finalist a year ago when Boston University freshman center Jack Eichel won it.
Vesey notched 24 goals and 22 assists in 33 games for the Crimson including six power-play goals, five game-winners and one shorthanded goal in leading his team to an NCAA Tournament berth.
For the second straight year, he was named the ECAC Player of the Year, the Ivy League Player of the Year, an ECAC first-team selection and the winner of the Walter Brown Award as the best American-born player in New England.
The hard-working Vesey is a native of North Reading, Massachusetts, and is a government major. He concluded his Harvard career with 80 goals and 64 assists in 128 games.
He is the older brother of University of Maine sophomore left winger Nolan Vesey.
