CONCORD, New Hampshire — Matt Curry’s sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth gave the University of Maine-Presque Isle Owls a 6-5 baseball victory over the NHTI Lynx and a doubleheader sweep Saturday.

UMPI won the first game 5-1.

Jesus Garcia earned the win for UMPI in the first game as he turned in a 114-pitch effort in eight innings, allowing eight hits and five runs. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out seven.

Ryan Sanderson hit a solo homer and singled to spark UMPI (8-16) while Adam Begos notched three hits and an RBI and Saul Nunez had an RBI double.

Michael Kernan led NHTI (1-6) with two hits and two RBIs.

Andrew Bartlett earned the win for UMPI in the first game after allowing 10 hits but just one run in 6 ⅓ innings. He walked four and struck out four.

Sanderson tripled, singled and drove in two runs for the Owls while Curry chipped in with a double and two singles. Tommy Collins also had two hits.

Cody Bassett recorded three hits for NHTI.

Castleton sweeps UMF

At Castleton, Vermont, the Spartans limited the Beavers to a single run while sweeping a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader by scores of 5-1 and 8-0 on Saturday.

Castleton also swept UMF on Sunday 6-2 and 6-2.

In Saturday’s second game, Charles Stapleford pitched a four-hitter with seven strikeouts and four walks to complete the sweep. Mitchell Caron singled twice with three RBIs to lead Castleton. Taylor Vile belted a solo home run and a double and Nick Swim doubled and singled.

Tyler Flayhan singled twice for the University of Maine-Farmington behind losing pitcher Riley Chickering.

In the first game, Devin Hayes and Michael LaBeau combined on a four-hitter for the Spartans. Nick Swim collected three singles and two RBIs and Zach Bahan had a single and two RBIs.

Jimmy Parks doubled with an RBI and Sean Cabaniss tripled for UMF. Nate Pushard took the loss.

In Sunday’s first game, Steven Jurkiewicz scattered four hits and two runs to lead Castleton by UMF.

Bahan had three hits and an RBI to lead Castleton (12-9, 6-2 NAC) and Dan Errico added two hits and an RBI.

Cabaniss cranked a two-run homer for UMF (8-8, 1-5).

In the second game, Castleton’s Sam Spencer struck out six and walked only one to earn the win. He gave up seven hits and two runs.

Jim Buckley and Nick Patierne each drove in two runs to lead the offense.

Tom Grady and Grayson Beressi each had two hits with Grady driving in a run for UMF.

Softball

UMPI sweeps SMCC

At South Portland on Saturday, Sara Packard picked up two pitching wins as the UMaine-Presque Isle Owls swept the Southern Maine Community College Seawolves 8-4 and 17-6.

Dalynn Jacobs sparked UMPI in the first game with two hits and two RBIs while Mikalya Churchill turned in a 4-for-4 effort. Carly Bell, Katie Patenaude and Jordi Legassie each contributed two hits with Packard and Legassie each driving in a run. Amanda Allen also had two RBIs.

Maria Veino had a double and single for SMCC while Abigail Nielsen, Grace Davis and Angela Neff each added two hits.

In the second game, UMPI batted around in the sixth and seventh innings to put the game away. Seven hits, seven walks and an error resulted in 14 runs.

Packard had an RBI double while Bell, Patenaude, Churchill and Nicole Marucci each had an RBI single.

Women’s Lacrosse

Johnson State 12, MMA 9

At Castine, Nichole Weeks scored five goals and assisted on two more to lead Johnson State (Vermont) past Maine Maritime Academy.

Brittney Malik added three goals and an assist and Kaylyn Rood had two goals and two assists. Kaitlin Boucher made nine saves for Johnson State (1-5 overall, 1-2 North Atlantic Conference).

Rachael Redles had three goals for MMA and Sierra James and Briana Obshatkin had two each. Haley Eckert and Mary Shea also scored and Christina Wilson made eight stops for the Mariners (0-9, 0-4 NAC).

GMC 9, UMF 7

At Castleton, Vermont, Megan Scully scored two of her game-high five goals in the last 14:11 to help the Eagles edge the Beavers in a North Atlantic Conference game on Saturday.

Chelsea Wimble made eight saves for GMC (3-5, 2-1 NAC.

Mara Balboni scored three goals and Alaina Shorey tallied two for the University of Maine-Farmington (2-4, 0-3 NAC). Carly Raymond (assist) and Rebecca Young added a goal each, while Alyssa Arsenault made eight stops.

Castleton 10, Husson 2

At Boucher Field in Bangor on Saturday, Brianna MacKay racked up six goals to propel the Spartans to a North Atlantic Conference win over the Eagles.

Meghan Els tallied 15 saves for Castleton (6-4, 4-0 NAC).

Alissa Fallon and Mattie Russell scored a goal each for Husson (2-5, 1-2 NAC). Kaitlin Dolloff registered 13 saves.

Men’s Lacrosse

MMA 18, Johnson State 5

At Castine on Saturday, Brendan Broderick piled up six goals and four assists to spearhead the Mariners’ North Atlantic Conference win over the Badgers.

Dean Samuelson provided four goals and an assist for Maine Maritime Academy (3-6, 3-0 NAC), with Chase Whittemore netting three goals and Alex Grant-Roy and Tim Grant each adding two goals and an assist. Michael Martel posted a goal and two assists and Zachary Doucette had three assists while Cody Schell made one save.

Isaiah Leraeu paced Johnson State (0-6, 0-3 NAC) with three goals and one assist. Jay Palmisano had 23 saves.

Castleton 12, Husson 7

At Boucher Field in Bangor, the Spartans outscored the Eagles 9-2 in the second half to earn a North Atlantic Conference victory on Saturday.

Kyle Lutinski, Tom Pardew and Sam Siegel each contributed two goals and an assist for Castleton (7-4, 4-0 NAC). Taylor Swarter and Jason Sedell netted two goals each and Nik Rancourt and Zach Devoid each added one. Romello Lindsey made five saves and Peter Latulippe had one for the winners.

Trent Sell paced Husson (3-6, 3-1 NAC) with two goals and an assist. Brett Martin (2 assists), Vinny Visconti (assist), Brandon Corbo (assist), Jack White and Brooks Gay scored a goal apiece.

Matt Martin recorded 23 saves for the Eagles.

GMC 13, UMF 8

At Castleton, Vermont, on Sunday, Nate Laymon, Will Durant and Brendan McKenna each scored three goals to lead Green Mountain College by UMaine-Farmington,

Carl Diethelm made eight saves for GMC (1-7, 1-2 NAC).

Isaac Wright and Travis St. Pierre paced UMF (0-7, 0-4) with two goals and an assist apiece.
