POLAND, Maine — Fire departments across the state are asking Mainers not to burn anything Monday. They say the dry conditions make it easy to start a brush fire.

In Poland, crews were called to a home on Cobb Road Monday morning after a bonfire from Sunday night didn’t extinguish all the way.

The flames spread to nearby woods and almost to the home.

The fire chief says they got it under control fast, but says there’s a lesson to be learned.

“It’s still very dry out there. If you are going to have any type of campfire outside, whether you think the fire may be out or not, put a couple extra buckets of water on it, get a garden hose and make sure you get the thing out completely,” Chief Mark Bosse of the Poland Fire Department said.

The Maine Forest Service says areas along the coast are at a high risk for fires Monday. Areas inland have a moderate risk
