PORTLAND, Maine — A pair of Bronx men were arrested Wednesday night on suspicion of selling heroin out of a Cumberland Avenue apartment, according to officials.
Luchone Elzey, 24, and Jacquil Turner, 21, are both facing a Class A felony charge of aggravated trafficking in heroin, according to Maine Drug Enforcement Agency Commander Scott Pelletier.
The pair have been under investigation over the last two months into the distribution of the drug from New York, according to a statement from Pelletier.
Investigative efforts revealed members of a group would travel back and forth from New York to Portland weekly with large amounts of heroin, which would subsequently be sold throughout Portland, the statement said.
The targets for the sales were typically local apartments where the residents would receive heroin or money as a payment for letting the group use their residence, the statement said.
Ezley and Turner were located as a search warrant was executed Wednesday and arrested without incident. Approximately eight ounces of heroin equivalent to 4,760 individual doses, $4,000 in cash and a number of items indicative of drug trafficking were seized. The heroin was valued at $35,000.
Ezley and Turner were taken to the Cumberland County Jail, where bail was set at $50,000 cash for Ezley and $25,000 for Turner. Additional charges and arrests are likely as the investigation continues.
