DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine — A Parkman man was sentenced Monday to 2½ years in prison with all but six months suspended at the Piscataquis County Courthouse in connection with his bribing children at his wife’s home day care with candy and gum so they would expose themselves to him, according to the Piscataquis County district attorney’s office.
David S. Russell, 69, pleaded no contest last month to seven counts of visual sexual aggression against a child.
No-contest pleas result in convictions.
Russell was ordered to begin serving his sentence May 2.
In addition to prison time, which Russell may serve at the Piscataquis County Jail, he was sentenced to four years of probation, the district attorney’s office announced Tuesday morning in an email.
The day care is no longer in operation.
Russell was arrested in December and released on $2,500 bail. He remains free on bail.
Six of the charges are Class C felonies because the alleged victims are between the ages of 4 and 12. The other is a Class D misdemeanor because that alleged victim is between 12 and 14.
Russell was sentenced to 2½ years with all but six month suspended on the Class C counts and to six months in jail on the seventh count, to be served at the same time.
He faced up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000 on the six counts involving the children under the age of 12. He faced up to a year in prison and a fine of up to $2,000 if convicted on the count involving the child under the age of 14.
