PORTLAND, Maine — Aaron Wilkerson allowed just two hits in 7 ⅓ scoreless innings and the Portland Sea Dogs shut out the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 2-0 in an Eastern League baseball game Monday night at Hadlock Field.
Wilkerson (W, 2-1) walked just two and struck out eight in the outing and has now worked 19 ⅓ consecutive scoreless innings — the longest streak for Portland this season.
The Sea Dogs got on the board in the second inning on an RBI single by Rainel Rosario, scoring Ryan Court. Rosario finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI and has multiple hits in three straight games. Nate Freiman hit a solo home run in the sixth, his first in the Red Sox organization, to extend the lead to 2-0.
Chandler Shepherd (S, 4) closed the door with 1 ⅔ scoreless innings in relief, allowing just one hit and striking out three.
Fisher Cats starter Shane Dawson (L, 1-2) went six innings and allowed two runs on five hits while walking three and striking out a season-high seven.
Making his Double-A debut for Portland, top Red Sox prospect Andrew Benintendi finished the game 0-for-4. He made a ranging catch in the left-center field gap on a fly ball hit by Jon Berti in the ninth inning.
