The Portland City Council voted in favor to partially keep the India Street Clinic after efforts to try to save it.

It’s part of a plan to pass a new city budget.

Despite vocal opposition, by a vote of 8 to 1 tonight, the council voted to partially shut down part of the India Street Clinic.

It’s part of a 236-million dollar budget, which the city manager says is meant to refocus city government around core programs.

However, the council did vote to keep open some of the India Street Clinic programs including S.T.D and H.I.V. testing and a needle exchange program.

City leaders say patients will still be able to get other services at the Portland Community Health Center.
The budget includes about a 2.5 percent property tax increase.
