JOHNSON MOUNTAIN TOWNSHIP, Maine — A truck carrying a windmill base from the Quebec border to Bingham crashed Monday after losing control on Route 201, according to Maine State Police.

The driver, Frederic Mercier, 30, of Quebec, had lost control on a corner, causing the truck, trailer and load to slide off the road, according to a statement from state police.

The truck knocked down a Central Maine Power pole before coming to a rest blocking the northbound lane.

Mercier, who was driving for Transport Tricam of Quebec, was not injured.

Central Maine Power and Fairpoint were called in to restore phone service and electricity to those in the area, while West Forks firefighters, the Maine Department of Transportation and the Department of Environmental Protection assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
