WESTON, Maine — A Houlton man escaped major injury Tuesday when the Cessna 172 plane he was flying made an emergency landing in Brackett Lake in southern Aroostook County, state police said.

Greg Lizotte, 58, was flying to Houlton from Princeton when he began to lose power around 4:30 p.m., according to a statement from state police.

Lizotte made an emergency landing and swam to shore. He suffered minor injuries.

Lizotte had flown to Princeton with Terry Beals, 64, also of Houlton, to pick up another plane and return it to Houlton. Lizotte was alone in the plane which landed in the water.

State Police and several Maine Game Wardens responded to the scene. The plane is owned by Carol Warren of New Hampshire. The Federal Aviation Administration, the National Traffic Safety Board and the Maine Department of Environmental Protection are investigating the crash, and will remove the submerged plane as soon as possible.
