DEDHAM, Maine — A local man who was reported missing by his family has been located and is safe, according to police.

Lt. Chris Thornton of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday that Christoper Files, 56, has been in touch with law enforcement and is considered to be safe. The sheriff’s department had sent out a national teletype on Friday, June 3, about Files being missing, but the alert was canceled on Monday.

Thornton said he was not sure if Files, who had not spoken to his family since May 31, had re-established contact with them. He said the sheriff’s department is not releasing additional information about the situation.

In a post on its Facebook page, sheriff’s department officials indicated last week that Files is a retired veteran whose last known location was in New York state and that he may have been headed to Idaho in a black Chevrolet Silverado.
