PORTLAND, Maine — John Means allowed one earned run over seven innings on Wednesday night to help the Bowie Baysox post a 4-1 Eastern League baseball victory over the Portland Sea Dogs at Hadlock Field.
Means (1-2) earned his first career Double-A win in his third start, allowing just four hits while walking none and striking out one.
Bowie (25-34) got on the board in the fourth inning on a two-out, RBI single by Tucker Nathans off of Teddy Stankiewicz (1-6). Chance Sisco delivered another two-out RBI hit with a two-run single in the fifth on Stankiewicz to extend the lead to 3-0.
Stankiewicz allowed four runs on 11 hits in 5⅓ innings, walking two and striking out two for Portland (19-39). The Sea Dogs bullpen provided a bright spot, with Luis Ysla striking out five in 2⅔ hitless innings and Chandler Shepherd working a perfect ninth.
Nate Freiman hit a solo homer over the Maine Monster in the seventh inning to account for the lone Sea Dogs run.
Donnie Hart worked a perfect eighth for Bowie while Jason Stoffel earned his 10th save of the season.
