BRUNSWICK, Maine — An 11-year-old Brunswick girl told police Tuesday that an older man in a large, black truck pulled up beside her on Jordan Avenue, called for her to come closer, then offered her candy.

The girl, who was walking to the playground at the former Jordan Avenue elementary school at about 4 p.m., ran from the truck and hid, according to her mother. She then walked home when her friend arrived.

When the girl’s mother walked outside with her shortly afterward, the truck reportedly drove by again.

Police on Tuesday released an informational teletype to area law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for a black truck — the mother said it was a Chevrolet Silverado — but have not been notified of any similar reports, Brunswick police Cmdr. Marc Hagan said Thursday.

The driver is described as older man with white hair and a white goatee, according to Hagan.

No similar incidents have been reported to police, he said, though officers are watching for a vehicle matching that description.

“The young girl did the right thing,” Hagan said. “She didn’t approach the vehicle — we don’t approach vehicles or strangers — and she told her parents immediately.”
