HOPE, Maine — Jonathan Duke said he is excited about his new job as town administrator for the town of Newcastle in Lincoln County.

Duke confirmed Saturday that he will be leaving as town administrator in Hope and taking the new job about 30 miles south.

Duke has been Hope’s town administrator for a little more than 10 years. He was born and raised in neighboring Rockport and went to the University of Maine. He returned to the area and was hired for the Hope post.

The new job will offer him different challenges, he said, noting that it has a downtown and is larger than Hope.

He said he will miss the community and the people he worked with over the past decade.

He will begin work in Newcastle July 5, succeeding Lynn Maloney, the current town administrator.

Duke said he will continue to live in Rockport and commute to his new post in Newcastle.

Duke also is the town’s code enforcement officer. The Hope Select Board will meet Tuesday night to consider how to fill the posts.
