AUBURN, Maine — A slaughterhouse-bound cow that escaped from its trailer was shot by Auburn police Monday, according to a report from the Lewiston Sun Journal.
The newspaper reported police were dispatched about 10 a.m. when the cow, which was being transported by Harvest Hill Farms in Mechanic Falls, kicked the trailer door down and escaped.
The report said it took police about 10 to 15 rounds to put the cow down.
Another cow in the trailer did not escape, according to the report, and the escaped cow was dead by 10:45 a.m.
