WARREN, Maine — A Warren man was sentenced Wednesday to 30 days in jail for squeezing another man’s neck until he lost consciousness.

Eliot T. Boyce, 45, was sentenced Wednesday in Knox County Unified Court to 364 days in jail with all but 30 days suspended for a misdemeanor assault charge. A more serious charge of felony aggravated assault was dismissed in exchange for the plea to the lesser offense.

Boyce also will be placed on probation for a year after his release from jail.

Boyce admitted to getting into a fight with another man after that person would not stop bugging him, according to a police report filed in court at the time of his arrest.

The victim of the assault squeezed Boyce’s neck, he claimed, but Boyce was larger and stronger and retaliated by squeezing the other man’s neck until he fell unconscious.

Someone else in the home called police, and the victim was able to give them a statement after he recovered.
