CUSHING, Maine — A Thomaston man admitted Wednesday to trashing a cottage he co-owns with his sister.
John A. Elliot, 49, pleaded guilty in Knox County Unified Court to aggravated criminal mischief in a deferred disposition that will result in the charge being dropped and Elliot pleading to a lesser charge of criminal mischief if he adheres to terms of an agreement reached with the prosecutor.
If he refrains from additional criminal acts and repays the remainder of the restitution, he will get no more than 30 days in jail. The 30 days is a cap, and the defense can argue for less jail time when Elliot returns to court in a year.
Elliot has repaid $2,000 and owes an additional $1,899 for damages he caused to the cottage in Cushing he owns with a sister. He is required to repay the remainder as part of the agreement reached with the district attorney’s office.
The police report filed in court at the time of the incident last August said that Elliot was upset he had to share the cottage during the summer and that he broke windows, cut wiring and damaged plumbing.
