TRENTON, N.J. — The Trenton Thunder scored two unearned runs in the first inning and grabbed the opener from the Portland Sea Dogs, 3-0 in a five-inning rain-shortened Eastern League baseball contest on Monday night at Arm & Hammer Park.
The game was called after a 1-hour and 10-minute rain delay.
Lefthander Jordan Montgomery (6-3) gets credited for a three-hit shutout, issuing one walk and striking out five. Righty Keith Couch (4-4) took the loss for the Sea Dogs, working 4-plus innings on seven hits and three runs.
The game was delayed 33 minutes at the start due to rain, and the Thunder scored two unearned runs in the first inning.
Tyler Wade reached on Mauricio Dubon’s error to start Trenton’s rally. Mark Payton followed with a single and moved to second base on the throw to third base. Miguel Andujar and Lane Adams provided run-scoring ground-outs.
In the fifth, Andujar knocked in the final run with a single.
Sean Coyle went 2-for-2 and Tim Roberson picked up a double for the Sea Dogs.
