BREWER, Maine — The Old Town all-stars scored early to surge ahead en route to beating Bangor East 6-2 and winning the District 3 Little League baseball championship for ages 9-10 Thursday.
Old Town advanced to the state tourney in Westbrook and will play its opener at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 23 at Volunteer Field.
Gabe Gifford and Brody Harrington each recorded a single, double and run to spark Old Town. Jackson Lizzotte chipped in with two singles, two RBIs and a run. Gifford was also the winning pitcher.
Ryan Libby hit a home run and drove in two runs for Bangor East. George Socolow added a single and a run.

Ellsworth 8, Acadians 0
At Ellsworth, Hunter Curtis and David Baugh combined on a no-hitter to lead Ellsworth by the Acadians to capture the District 1 championship in the ages 11-12 division Wednesday night.
Curtis struck out five in two innings and Baugh came on to strike out five more in four innings to help Ellsworth advance to the state tourney in Orrington where they will play their first game on July 24.
Landen St. Peter sparked Ellsworth two triples while Brett Bragdon chipped in with a single and a double. Baugh contributed two singles while Mason Tupper, Nathan Smith, Michael Palmer, Daniel Howie and Lucas Gagnon each added a single.
Other members of the championship team are Reese Jagels, Brody Mercier, Keegan Omlor and Chase Crossman. The team is managed by Allen Smith and coached by Buddy Palmer and Jonah Rounseville.
Acadians pitcher A.J. Lozano struck out eight in 5 ⅓ innings.
The rest of the District 1 runner-up team, managed by Tom James, are: Alex Fernald, Luke Horner, Quinton Pileggi, Cedar Ellis, Tucker James, Jack Hodgdon, Deangelo Reed, Austin Wedge, Austin Raymond, Bing Shields, Wilber Noyes, and Ryan Davis.

Bangor, Holbrook advance
At Mansfield Stadium Wednesday night, Bangor and Holbrook advanced to a losers bracket showdown after notching elimination wins with Bangor topping Lincoln 12-2 in five innings and Holbrook beating Brewer 18-4 in six innings.
Bangor and Holbrook will clash at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, preceded by a winners bracket game between Old Town and Bronco/Hermon at 1:30 p.m.
On Wednesday night, Bangor erupted for 12 runs and nine hits in the fourth and fifth innings to earn a mercy-rule win.
Gage Moody sparked Bangor (2-1) with a double, single and three RBIs while James Neel chipped in with two singles and an RBI.
Malcolm Slomienski tripled for Lincoln (2-2).
In the second game, the Holbrook all-stars (3-1) also broke open a close game to win via the mercy rule when they sent 17 batters to the plate in the sixth inning and scored 12 runs on 10 hits and three errors. Max Chadwick singled twice in the inning, driving in four runs. He finished with three singles and six RBIs.
Andrew Kiley chipped in with an RBI triple and single while Trevor Pearson contributed three singles and three RBIs and Ben Spear added two singles.
Anthony Chiappone and Matt Mousseau each smacked RBI doubles.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Sam Huston’s RBI single in the bottom of the ninth lifted the Coffee News Comrades by the Rowell’s Penquis Navigators.
The Navigators scored six runs in the first four innings and two more in the top of the ninth to tie it at 8-8.
Hampden 6, Skowhegan 2
At Skowhegan on Wednesday, Hampden was sparked by Connor Farmer’s grand slam en route to the win over Skowhegan.
Nick Guerette recorded the win from the mound, allowing seven hits, two runs and striking out eight over seven innings. Casey Subdeck chipped in two singles for the winners.
Evan Bess took the loss for Skowhegan, allowing six runs in four innings.

At Dover-Foxcroft on Wednesday, Dustin Brown pitched seven scoreless innings and struck out 10 batters to lead Post 51 of Oakland to the victory.
Jared Cunningham (double), Danny Pooler (double), Derek Bowen, Trevor Gettig and Colby Dexter (double) each contributed multiple hits to pace the Post 51 offense.
Brayden Miller (double) chipped in two hits for Rowell’s Navigators while Chandler Rockwell, Grant Poulin, Brooks Law, Colin Beckett and Cameron Doak each singled.
