Orono fencer cracks top 100 at national competition

The 13-year-old competed in the sabre division for the older Y14 group and finished 94th in the event.

Ginobili to receive one-year deal from Spurs

Manu Ginobili reportedly re-signed with the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday, from the only NBA team he has played for, getting a one-year deal.

According to the Vertical on Yahoo Sports, Ginobili is returning to San Antonio on a contract that will pay him $14 million after the 38-year-old opted out of his $2.9 million contract to enter free agent.

Last week, Ginobili announced via Twitter that he was returning to the Spurs for a 15th season when he tweeted: ”Happy to tell you guys that I’ll be coming back to the Spurs for another season.”

Ginobili has averaged 14 points and has won four championships with San Antonio, which selected him 57th overall in the 1999 draft. Ginobili also is a two-time All-Star and won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award in 2008.

Last season, he averaged 9.6 points and 3.1 assists while playing 58 games as the Spurs posted a team-record 67 regular-season victories.

Red Wings’ Glendening signs 4-year extension

The Detroit Red Wings added to their depth at forward on Thursday by signing center Luke Glendening to a four-year contract extension.

Financial terms were not disclosed by the team for the speedy Glendening, who recorded a career-high 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists) in 81 games last season. He was slated to become an unrestricted free agent after next summer.

“If you’d have told me two or three years ago that I’d be sitting here talking about a four-year extension, I probably would have laughed,” Glendening said, per the Detroit Free Press. “I’m excited to have security of my future for a little bit, but that doesn’t mean you can sit back. You have to keep getting better.”

The 27-year-old Michigan native was considerably strong in the faceoff circle, winning a team-best 54.6 percent of his draws.
