BANGOR, Maine — The Bronco-Hermon Junior League all-star team advanced to the championship round of the District 3 baseball tourney with a 14-13 victory over Old Town Saturday at Mansfield Stadium.
Holbrook ousted Bangor 7-6 in the day’s second game of the double-elimination tourney and will take on Old Town at 5 p.m. Monday in another elimination-round game. The winner advances to take on unbeaten Bronco-Hermon at 5 p.m. Tuesday. A Bronco-Hermon loss would force an if-necessary game at 7:30 p.m.
In Saturday’s first game, Bronco-Hermon’s Wyatt Harriman raced home with the winning run on Mychal Beaulieu’s single in the bottom of the seventh.
Harriman singled earlier in the inning to drive in Ethan Quimby to tie the game.
Jackson Thayer sparked Bronco-Hermon (3-0) with three singles and three RBIs. Keith Pomeroy chipped and Quimby each chipped in with three singles with Pomeroy driving in two runs. Sam Economy contributed with two singles and an RBI.
Tyler McCannell singled twice and drove in three runs to lead Old Town (2-1). Ethan Hayes smacked a two-run triple and Chris Albert contributed with two singles and an RBI.
In the second game, Ben Spear’s two-out RBI single with the bases-loaded in the seventh inning game Holbrook (4-1) the winning edge.
Raiden Charity, Alec Gagnon, Ben Spear and Will Whitman each added two singles for Holbrook. Spear also had an RBI.
Kevin Fish and Gage Moody each singled twice for Bangor (2-2) with Fish driving in two runs.

Bronco-Hermon advances
At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor Sunday, Bronco-Hermon gained a berth in the championship round of the Senior League District 3 tourney with a 4-1 victory over Old Town in the winners bracket.
Old Town will play in the losers bracket of the double-elimination tourney at 7:30 p.m. Monday when it takes the winner of Sunday night’s late game between Brewer and Bangor.
The winner of Monday’s game advances to the championship round against Bronco-Hermon at 5 p.m. Wednesday. If Bronco-Hermon loses, an if-necessary game follows. Bronco-Hermon features players from Hampden Academy and Hermon High School.
The teams are playing for the right to represent their district in the upcoming Senior League World Series.
Brewer and Bangor stayed alive in the tourney Sunday morning when Brewer eliminated Sebasticook Valley of Newport-Pittsfield 12-8 and Bangor ousted Holbrook 7-2.
The District 3 champion will open Senior League World Series play at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 31, back at Mansfield Stadium against the U.S. Southwest champion — West University Little League of Houston, Texas, has won that region the last two years and gone on to become the SLWS champion both times.
Bronco-Hermon, Old Town win
At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor on Saturday, Bronco-Hermon beat Holbrook 10-1 and Old Town stopped Brewer 6-3 in Senior League tourney action.
In the first game, Bronco-Hermon’s Zach Nash, Brandon Gendreau and Kent Johnson combined to limit Holbrook to a run and four hits en route to the victory.
Alex McKenney sparked Bronco-Hermon (2-0) with a double and single while Nick Robidoux chipped in with three singles and an RBI. Casey Sudbeck added two singles.
Nate Smith recorded two singles for Holbrook (0-1).
In the second game, Ryan Hoogterp, Nick Swift and Jake Dubay each notched a hit in Old Town’s four-run fifth inning and they went on to pick up the win.
Dubay and Nick Swift each hit an RBI single for Old Town (1-0).
Tyler Hersey smacked an RBI double for Brewer (1-1) and added a single.

Houlton 13, Brewer/Orrington 1
At Orrington on Friday, Houlton jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning en route to its first District 3 championship since 1976.
Houlton advanced to the state tourney and will return to Orrington next weekend for the opening round. The Houlton all-stars will play their first game at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 24 against the winner of a Saturday contest between the District 2 champ and the District 4 champ.
RBI singles by Silas Graham, Garret Harvey, Kurtis Reynolds and Brock Thompson gave Houlton the 4-0 lead.
Brewer responded with its only run in the bottom of the first when Gavin Carr singled and eventually scored on Nick Chaffe’s RBI single.
Houlton added a run in the fourth on Collin Moody’s sacrifice fly.
The Houlton stars then broken open the game in the fifth, highlighted by RBI singles by Graham, Harvey and a two-run home run by Reynolds.
Reynolds finished with the home run and two singles while Moody, Graham and Thompson each chipped in with two singles and two RBIs each.
Harvey was also the winning pitcher as he allowed just three hits and a walk while striking out six.
Cameron Lagassie contributed a single for Brewer/Orrington.
