BREWER, Maine — A man who wandered away from an assisted living facility last month has been found in the Midwest, Brewer police said Wednesday.
Gordon Brewster, 78, is “doing well and is in a safe location,” Brewer Public Safety Director Jason Moffitt said in a statement.
Investigators determined Brewster left Brewer on his own free will and traveled to his current location by public transportation, Moffitt said.
Information on how Brewster got to his location and the location at which he was found were not disclosed due to medical privacy laws and out of respect for Brewster’s personal privacy, Moffitt said.
Brewster was located Wednesday morning by law enforcement officials, who concluded he left Maine alone and wants to remain in his current location, Moffitt said.
Brewer police and Maine Warden Service officials had searched the area for Brewster without success, and the focus of the search was shifted to the midwestern states after authorities learned Brewster had left the area.
