BANGOR — The Bronco-Hermon all-stars received hits from 10 different players and rolled by Brewer 13-0 in five innings to capture the District 3 Senior League baseball title Thursday night at Mansfield Stadium.

The victory puts the Bronco-Hermon team in the Senior League World Series as the host team when the week-long international Little League tourney opens on Sunday, July 31 at Mansfield. Puerto Rico, Australia and Spain all have punched their tickets for Bangor after winning the first three regional qualifying tournaments to be completed.

Bronco-Hermon, which draws players ages 15-16 from Hampden and Hermon, posted a 4-0 record in the District 3 tourney.

The champs used a nine-run third inning to beat their Brewer counterparts. Alex McKenney and Zach Nash each beat out fielder’s choice throws to home plate and Casey Sudbeck hit a bases-clearing double.

Sudbeck helped his cause as he pitched the first four innings to earn the win. He allowed four hits, didn’t walk a batter and struck out five.

Garrett Trask finished with two singles and two RBIs for Bronco-Hermon while McKenney chipped in with an RBI double and Alex Applebee added a double.

Hunter Umel recorded two singles for Brewer (4-2) and Josh Pellegrino had a double.

Acadians, Skowhegan advance

At Husson University’s Winkin Complex in Bangor, No. 4 Skowhegan Post 16 tipped No. 5 Brewer 2-1 and the No. 6 Trenton Acadians eliminated No. 3 RH Foster of Hampden 2-1 in American Legion Zone 1 play-in games Thursday night.

Skowhegan will take on the No. 2 Coffee News Comrades of Bangor at 4 p.m. and the Acadians will battle No. 1 Post 51 of Oakland at 7 p.m. Friday in first-round playoff games.

In Thursday’s first game, Skowhegan rallied for two eighth-inning runs to beat Brewer. Sean Whalen, Brendan Curran and Adam Turcotte each singled to load the bases and then Cody Lawyerson and Will Stinson each drew walks to plate the two runs.

Logan Rogerson’s fielder’s choice grounder produced Brewer’s run in the ninth.

In the second game, Trenton’s Conor Maguire allowed just four hits and a run in nine innings to earn the win. He walked just two and struck out eight.

The Acadians scored two runs in the top of the eighth on an Ethan Shepard walk, a Brad Smith sacrifice a Dakota Chipman single and two errors.

At the Orono High School field on Wednesday, Alex Maxsimic smacked a two-run base-loaded single after the previous batter received an intentional walk to highlight Brewer’s five-run seventh inning.

Tyler Hersey added a two-run double in the inning and Garrett Hamlin chipped in with an RBI double.

Maxsimic finished with two singles, a double and four RBIs to lead Brewer while Kobe Rogerson contributed three singles and an RBI. Cam Harvey chipped in with a double, single and an RBI while Matt Pushard singled twice.

Tyler Young led Motor City with a single, double and two RBIs, Jacob Ketch added a double and Jordan Hanscom singled twice and drove in a run.

At Hampden on Wednesday, RH Foster concluded the regular season with the win over Post 51 of Oakland.

Tyler Beaton pitched three innings of relief to secure the win for RH Foster while Troy Reynolds pitched the ninth to notch the save. Nick Robidoux recorded two hits and three RBIs to spark Hampden while Zach Nash contributed with two hits and two runs.

Messalonskee was led by Conner Garland who had a home run among his three hits. Derek Bowen, Dylan Brown, Jared Cunningham each had two hits to round out the offense.
