ANSON, Maine — A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a hit and run in which pedestrians were struck in his hometown on July 12, according to Somerset County Sheriff Dale Lancaster.

Larry Swett of Anson is accused of leaving the scene of an accident involving injury, a Class C offense, Lancaster said.

A vehicle matching the description of Swett’s was observed on East Madison Road on Wednesday afternoon, according to Lancaster.

A traffic stop was initiated by a sheriff’s office detective, and Swett admitted to hiding himself and the vehicle, which had damage to the windshield, since the incident, the sheriff said.

Swett also allegedly admitted he had been wanting to turn himself in to authorities, and to the hit and run.

Swett is being held on $500 cash bail at the Somerset County Jail. The case remains under investigation.

Further information on the hit and run was not disclosed.
