VINALHAVEN, Maine — Bail was set Friday afternoon at $2,500 for a 44-year-old Vinalhaven man accused of assaulting a woman and a boy Thursday night.
Jeremy Vandyne was arrested and charged with Class B aggravated assault, two counts of Class D domestic violence assault and Class D criminal threatening.
He was taken to Knox County Jail in Rockland with the assistance of the Maine Marine Patrol, which brought him to the mainland by boat.
According to an affidavit filed by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, police were alerted by a citizen who was approached by a boy who reported being assaulted. When the sheriff’s deputy arrived, the woman allegedly reported that Vandyne had pushed her to the floor twice and had put a choke hold on the 14-year-old boy.
Vandyne threatened to have the woman’s “head bashed in,” according to the affidavit.
The boy told police he had picked up a knife when Vandyne confronted him because he felt threatened but that Vandyne took the knife from him, according to the affidavit. Vandyne was cut during the struggle, according to the affidavit.
Judge Susan Sparaco set bail and said Vandyne could not return to the island until he signed a contract with Maine Pretrial Services.
