OLD TOWN — Old Town Recreation Center is launching Eastern Maine Fall Baseball League for kids ages 8-12 (Little League eligible), and ages 13-14. The league will be kid-pitch and will feature a 14-game regular season, beginning Aug. 28. It will include an end-of-the-season playoff. CROSS COUNTRY

BUCKSPORT — The Dynamic Duo relay race to benefit Bucksport High School cross country team will be held Saturday, Aug. 6, on the Bucksport High School cross country course. The format has male/female partners each running three miles as a relay team. Categories are determined by combined ages and places are decided by combined time. Each runner gets an individual time and each age group winning duo wins a prize. Entry fee is $20 per couple. The race starts at 8 a.m., with registration at 7 a.m. at the football field. DUATHLON

CARRABASSETT VALLEY — The 2016 Backwoods Duathlon mountain bike and trail running race by Maine Huts and Trails and Baxter Outdoors, Saturday, Aug. 6, either solo or as a team of two, race by bike and by foot on the trails surrounding Stratton Brook Hut, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The trail running segment is 10K, and the mountain biking segment is 15K, which includes an exciting descent down Oak Knoll Trail.

FOOTBALL

BANGOR — The Bangor Chapter of Maine Football Officials will begin classes for prospective officials at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, at the lecture hall at Bangor High School. The course will meet every Tuesday for 10 weeks. New officials will be allowed and encouraged to referee middle school and youth league games this fall once the basic rules are covered. BREWER — Penobscot Ice Arena in Brewer is running a Fall 3-on-3 hockey league for Mite, Squirt, Peewee/Bantam Brackets. This is a fast-paced, skill-based league played cross-ice. Players get increased puck touches, team play, have to think fast and goaltenders see a lot of shots. There will be two 24-minute games, four teams per age bracket, limited to 10 total team roster. MARTIAL ARTS

BANGOR — Martial artists from across the country take part in a training seminar 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Aug. 5-6, and 9 a.m.-noon Sunday, Aug. 7, at Spectacular Event Center, 395 Griffin Road. They will train under former All Okinawan Kata, Kobudo and Kumite Grand Champion Isao Kise. The training will be hosted by federation chartered members, Maine Traditional Karate of Orrington and Orland Shorin-Ryu of Orland. Other seminar instructors will include the federation’s U.S. Directors, Hanshi John Shipes and Hanshi Jeff Ader, U.S. Off-shore Director Francisco Aguila and Director Designate Loren Engelby. Participants’ training will involve teaching of empty-hand fighting techniques, kata or forms, and kobudo or weaponry. There is no charge to the public. ROAD RACING

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The 20th annual Pony Pride 5K Road Race will be held 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, in conjunction with Foxcroft Academy’s Alumni and Dover-Foxcroft Homecoming Weekend. Registration is 7-7:45 a.m. at the FA track building. The course is first mile relatively flat, second mile slight upgrade, third mile varying terrain and last 200 meters finishes on FA track. CALAIS — Calais Recreation Department’s 37th annual Johnson’s Five Mile Road Race 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, from Memorial Park on Main Street. The race starts in the United States, goes into Canada and finishes back in the States. Preregistration is $15 and will be accepted until 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5. Registration after that is $20. Due to border security, no on can register after 8 a.m. the day of the race.
