TOPSHAM, Maine — Topsham Police are reminding Mainers not to drink and drive after one of their officers was hit by a suspected drunk driver.

Topsham Police posted the incident on their Facebook page Sunday night.

According to the Facebook post, Officer Lucas Shirland received a report of a suspected impaired driver on I-295. Officer Shirland wasn’t able to find the suspected impaired driver right away.

“Unfortunately for Lucas, the suspected impaired driver found him, by driving into the back of Lucas’ cruiser,” Topsham Police wrote.

Officer Shirland was taken to the hospital. He has since been released and is expected to be okay.

“We, and Lucas, remind you to please not drink and drive,” Topsham Police wrote.
