ERIE, Pennsylvania — The Portland Sea Dogs pounded out 22 hits, one shy of a team record, as they defeated the Erie SeaWolves 16-1 in an Eastern League baseball game Wednesday night at Jerry Uht Park.
Portland hit five homers and established a team record with 45 total bases.
Portland’s Jalen Beeks (4-2) fired six two-hit innings while striking out five batters and walking two while earning his third straight win. Erie’s Tommy Collier (7-7) took the loss, giving up 10 hits and seven runs in 2 ⅓ innings.
The Sea Dogs had 21 hits in the first six innings to take a 15-0 lead. Ryan Court knocked in the first run with a single and finished 2-for-6 with a three-run homer and 5 RBI. Jake Romanski led off the second with a homer to left and went 4-for-5, finishing a triple shy of the cycle.
Portland scored six runs on six hits in the third inning off Collier and David Martinez. Cody Decker led off the uprising with a solo homer. Decker hit his second homer in the ninth and now leads the club with 10 this season. Tzu-Wei Lin hit a two-run homer in the third. Mauricio Dubon went 3-for-6 with three RBIs as he drove home runs in three straight at-bats.
The Sea Dogs received a multi-hit game from seven of their nine starters. Aneury Tavarez improved his league-leading average to .338 by going 4-for-4 with two walks. Tavarez finished a homer shy of the cycle.
