BRUNSWICK, Maine — A Brunswick man was arrested Sunday and held without bail after allegedly assaulting a woman and threatening her with a knife.
Joshua Knight, 33, was arrested at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday at his home on Casco Road, Brunswick police Cmdr. Mark Waltz said Monday.
Police went to Knight’s home after the mother of the victim reported they were in an abusive relationship, according to Waltz. Police met with the 32-year-old woman, who allegedly told them Knight had threatened her with a knife and assaulted her with his hands earlier in the day.
“In the course of struggling with him, she was cut with a knife,” Waltz said, and she was taken to a local hospital for treatment of the cut.
Knight was charged with domestic violence aggravated assault, domestic violence criminal threatening, and possession of a firearm by a felon after police allegedly found him in possession of a sawed-off shotgun.
Police had been at Knight’s home earlier in the day after a neighbor reported that a man, who possibly had a firearm, was screaming and staring at them while they had a picnic, according to Waltz. Knight was given a disorderly conduct warning “and told to quiet down,” Waltz said.
Knight was scheduled for arraignment in Portland Unified Criminal Court on Monday afternoon.
