ST. JOHN VALLEY — Matt Cyr scored both Madawaska goals, which came in the second half, as the Owls came from behind for a 2-1 victory at Van Buren Aug. 22 in boys’ soccer action.

Triston Cyr picked up an assist on one of Cyr’s goals. Max Knox scored a first-half goal to stake the Crusaders to the early lead.
The Owl boys took on Caribou in another road game Friday and dropped a 7-0 decision. Andrew Nadeau made some great saves in the loss.

Madawaska fell to 1-2 with the defeat.

The Madawaska girls (2-1) found themselves on both sides of lopsided scores last week. A 10-0 win over Van Buren Aug. 22 was highlighted by three goals each by Kasie Blanchette and Jenna Dugal. Hannah Nadeau had a big game with two goals and three assists, while Desiree Belanger also netted a pair of goals.

The Van Buren boys (0-3-1) were edged by LCS/MSSM Monday at home by a 2-1 margin and the Crusader girls (0-4) were beaten, 4-0.

On Friday, a trip to Caribou resulted in an 8-1 loss. It was the Vikings’ first game of the season. Dugal scored Madawaska’s only goal off a Riley Lausier assist.

The Fort Kent girls (2-0) won big over Fort Fairfield last Tuesday, 10-1, as Cassidy Lovely and Alisha Guimond directed the offense with three goals each. The Warrior boys (1-1) lost a heartbreaker to the defending Class D state champion Tigers, falling in overtime by a 2-1 score. Micah Charette connected on a penalty kick, which came in the second half and tied the game at 1-1, for Fort Kent.

Wisdom (2-3) dropped a 6-0 decision to Central Aroostook in Mars Hill Monday in girls’ play. That followed a 5-0 triumph over the Easton Bears Friday.

The Pioneer boys fell to Easton Friday, 3-1, and to Central Aroostook Monday and dropped to 0-5 on the campaign. Dylan Weyenth scored Wisdom’s goal against Easton.

Fort Kent hosted a cross country meet last Wednesday at Lonesome Pine Trails. Both the Warrior girls’ and boys’ squads placed second to LCS/MSSM of Limestone. For the girls, Dolcie Tanguay was sixth overall in 26:39 and Elexis Fournier took 10th at 29:08. On the boys’ side, Skyler Bernstein fashioned a time of 21:15 to take third. Jackson Ashby was fifth (21:43), Matt Kelly seventh (22:30) and Alex Beaulieu 10th (23:02).
