BRUNSWICK, Maine — River Road at the bottom of Rocky Hill will be closed to all vehicle, foot and bike traffic for five days beginning Sept. 12 as road crews replace a major culvert crossing the road.
The road is scheduled to close at 7 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, just west of the house at 436 River Road, and reopen at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, according to a release from John Foster, Brunswick’s director of public works and town engineer.
Residents and those driving, walking or biking to locations beyond that address should use Durham and Hacker Roads to get to River Road. To get to the Brunswick landfill, use Route 1 south to Durham and then Hacker Road.
Message board signs will be in place later this week, and detour signs will be set up on Sept. 12.
The culvert was severely damaged in August 2014, and will be replaced by a new, wide-bottom culvert that meets fish passage requirements, Foster wrote in the release.
The culvert will be replaced by Ray Labbe & Sons and the Department of Public Works.
