BANGOR, Maine — A 38-year-old Winthrop man was sentenced to more than two years in prison Monday for possessing with the intent to distribute heroin, possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of an unregistered sawed-off shotgun during a hearing Monday in U.S. District Court.
In addition to his 57-month sentence, Chad Goucher was ordered to undergo three years of supervised release upon completion of his prison term.
Goucher pleaded guilty to the charges on Feb. 1.
The charges against Goucher stem from a search warrant executed by law enforcement officers at Goucher’s Mount Pisgah Road residence in Winthrop on March 6 of last year, according to court documents.
During the search, officers recovered 13 grams of heroin valued at $2,600, drug paraphernalia, $15,000 in cash and three firearms, including a .12 gauge Iver Johnson sawed-off shotgun.
Goucher had a prior felony conviction prohibiting him from possessing firearms. Goucher admitted to law officers that he intended to distribute some of the heroin and that he knew that he was not permitted to possess firearms.
During Monday’s sentencing hearing, Judge John A. Woodcock Jr. called Goucher’s actions “disgraceful” and said that he had disgraced his family’s name by turning his own mother’s home into a drug den.
The investigation that led to Goucher’s conviction was conducted by the Winthrop Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
