BANGOR, Maine — Brunswick Fire Chief Ken Brillant was named Fire Chief of the Year on Wednesday by the Maine Fire Chiefs’ Association.

Brillant was honored at the organization’s annual meeting.

Letters from Sen. Angus King, as well as Brunswick’s Town Council chairwoman, town manager, superintendent and members of the Fire Department supported the nomination and lauded Brillant’s professionalism and public service, according to a release from Town Manager John Eldridge.

“I can think of no one more deserving than Kenny,” Eldridge said in the release. “He is a true fire service professional in every sense of the word and a great member of Brunswick’s leadership team.”

Brillant has served as Brunswick’s fire chief since April 2010, and he was chief in neighboring Topsham from 2004 until he succeeded Clark Labbe as Brunswick’s chief. Before his Topsham tenure, he served for 12 years with the Brunswick Fire Department.

Brillant served as president of the Maine Fire Chiefs’ Association for the past two years. He thanked past and present chiefs, his family and members of his department, according to the release.

“I truly believe I have one of the best departments to lead in this state,” he said at the meeting.
