Game notes: UMaine is coming off a 67-47 win over Purdue and 87-43 loss to No. 10 Mississippi State in the Tip-Off Tournament while Harvard dropped a 103-87 contest to the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. The Crimson tied a school-record by nailing 16 3-pointers (in 30 attempts) so the Black Bears are going to have to defend the threes. UMaine may also want to pressure the ball because Harvard turned the ball over 22 times and Minnesota turned those turnovers into 33 points. Koizar, UMaine’s only returning starter, had 22 points, three assists and two steals in the 64-53 win over Harvard last season. She is the only returning UMaine player who played in that game. Harvard graduated its top three scorers off last year’s 14-14 team. Harvard has gone 14-14 in two successive years after winning at least 18 games in each of the previous seven campaigns and going to five WNITs during that span.
