DELHI, New York — Bobby Syvanthong hit a 3-point shot from the top of the key as time expired to propel the University of Maine-Fort Kent past Vermont Tech 80-77 in men’s basketball action on Sunday.
UMFK got a defensive stop, advanced the ball and called time-out to set up the game-winning shot.
The Bengals led throughout the game and outrebounded the Knights 47-36, including 20 on the offensive end.
Rosevelt Smith Jr. led UMFK with 21 points, including 17 in the second half, and seven rebounds, while Joe McCloskey had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Benson Arogbo chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds while Syvanthong finished 10 points and five assists.
Robert Holliday Jr. and Cameron Carter each scored 24 points for Vermont Tech.
On Saturday, UMFK took a 35-30 halftime lead but Berkeley College of New York outscored the Bengals 60-40 in the second half to record the win.
UMFK is now 3-1.
Stephon Bell paced UMFK with 19 points and Syvanthong added 14. McCloskey and Travis Harlin each contributed eight points and seven rebounds.
