Outlook: The tournament honors a 1980 BU graduate who was the program’s first three-time team MVP. He died in 2003 of leukemia. The event began on Nov. 11 when Northeastern beat BU 87-77. UMaine and LIU-Brooklyn are each playing Saturday, Sunday and Monday because LIU-Brooklyn defeated Loyola (Maryland) on Wednesday and didn’t want to play again two days later, when they were originally scheduled to meet UMaine. That would have meant four games in five days for the Blackbirds. Nine UMaine players have averaged at least 17 minutes during its first two games, with Myers (31 minutes per game) and Calixte (28 mpg) leading the way. Senior swingman Garet Beal (ankle) won’t play again this weekend, while sophomore forward Ilija Stojiljkovic’s (shoulder) status is uncertain. Neither played last weekend.

Game notes: Richard Barron’s Black Bears will look to snap a two-game losing streak against a Saint Peter’s team that has won just 19 of its last 153 games. UMaine is coming off a 69-62 loss to Harvard in which the Black Bears were outscored 35-25 in the second half and managed just nine fourth-quarter points. The Black Bears shot only 34.4 percent from the floor and 29.2 percent from beyond the three-point arc. Saint Peter’s lost its opener at Penn State 106-50 as the Nittany Lions scored 39 points in the first quarter en route to the comfortable win. Barron will continue to look for consistency from his freshman-laden Black Bears. Sole is off to an impressive start and could pose problems for Saint Peter’s with her inside moves.
