Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. has issued a voluntary recall of select 12-ounce bottles manufactured at the company’s Mills River brewery because of a glass packaging flaw that may cause a small piece of glass to break off and possibly fall into the bottle.
The recall is for select beer including Beer Camp Golden IPA, Pale Ale, Sidecar Orange Pale Ale, Tropical Torpedo, Nooner, Hop Hunter, Otra Vez and Torpedo Extra IPA in 12-ounce bottles.
Applying to products purchased in Midwest, Southern and East Coast states, Mike Bennett, Sierra Nevada supply chain officer, said in a news release that very few bottles are expected to be affected.
The recall comes after quality inspections in Mills River detected a very limited number of bottles with the flaw.
“We believe this concern impacts roughly 1 in every 10,000 (0.01 percent) of our bottles packaged during this time,” Bennett said in the release. “Sierra Nevada has set the standard for quality in the craft brewing industry since 1980 and we have decided to take this precaution to ensure the safety of our consumers.”
Bennett also said in the release that no reports of consumer injury have been reported and the company is working with its supplier to determine the root cause of the issue.
Sierra Nevada has stopped distributing all affected beer and is actively working with distributor and retail partners to remove the beer from retail shelves and hold any further shipments, according to the release. Consumers who have purchased beer within the scope of the recall will be eligible for full compensation of the purchase price and are advised not to drink it and to dispose of the beer.
