BANGOR, Maine — The heavy snow that fell Tuesday took down power lines across the state, knocking out power to nearly 37,000, but by 11 a.m., Wednesday several thousand had been restored, according to Emera Maine and Central Maine Power.
Central Maine Power had 29,415 customers without power at 6 a.m., with a majority — nearly 24,000 — in York County, according to their website.
By 11 a.m. the number of people without power decreased to 25,244, with 23,742 in York County.
At 6 a.m. 7,473 Emera Maine customers were without power, with Franklin, Sorrento, the Cranberry Isles, Gouldsboro and Eastport areas the heaviest hit, according to the Emera Maine website.
That number dropped slightly to 7,222 by 11 a.m. as power company crews worked to reconnect residents and businesses.
A handful of Bangor residents also lost power, and other outages were scattered around Greater Bangor. The majority of Emera’s customers without power, however, were in Washington County.
“Winter storm Stella brought heavy winds to much of our service territory, knocking down limbs, trees, and breaking poles in some cases,” the Emera Maine website states. “At this time we anticipate restoring most all customers by end of day today. Some customers in more remote locations may not be restored until tomorrow.”
