BANGOR, Maine — A Bradford woman who advertises “Topless Cleaning” picked up some “naughty underthings” without paying for them, according to the Bangor police.
Megan McGraw, 32, was charged with felony theft and violating conditions of her release last week, according to court documents.
She was not, however, charged with false advertising, according to Sgt. Tim Cotton, who posted about her arrest, without identifying her, on the department’s popular Facebook page.
She was arrested by Officer Dick Polk, who found in McGraw’s possession a hand-written flier that said, “Topless Cleaning,” with telephone number tear-offs at the bottom, and the garments reportedly stolen from The Salvation Army store on Broadway, according to court documents.
She did not have any cleaning supplies with her, the officer reported.
“Polk found that the owner/operator of — Topless Cleaning — (noted by two stars in the accompanying flier) had stolen garments that would fully cover, support, and contain much of what her business title promised her customers,” Cotton said. “Polk photographed the well-crafted advertising flier and duly noted that several of the easy tear-off tabs had been removed by individuals who had dirty dwellings and possibly dirty minds.”
Polk found a two-piece, green lingerie set and a green “nightie” valued at $4.98, according to court documents.
The theft charge was elevated from a Class E to a Class C crime due to McGraw’s prior convictions for theft in 2012 and 2013. Her criminal history from the State Bureau of Identification is 24 pages long.
McGraw, who also is known as Megan Yurchick, was released last Friday on $500 cash bail from the Penobscot County Jail, according to jail personnel.
McGraw could be spending more time there if a motion to revoke her bail, filed by the Penobscot County district attorney’s office, is granted.
Efforts to reach her attorney, Terence Harrigan of Bangor, and the assistant district attorney handling McGraw’s cases were unsuccessful Friday.
McGraw is next due to appear before a judge at the Penobscot Judicial Center in July. McGraw was charged in March with being a felon in possession of a firearm in connection with an armed robbery at a Brewer motel in January. She allegedly violated her bail by shoplifting.
Her husband, Anthony Yurchick, 47, of Blue Hill, was charged with robbery, felony theft and being a felon in possession of a firearm in that incident. He remained Friday at the Penobscot County Jail unable to post $100,000 bail. His trial date has not been set.
If convicted, McGraw faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up $5,000 each for the theft and possessions charges. She faces up to 6 months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000 on the bail violation charge.
