BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University men’s basketball program has received a commitment from junior college player Kyanti Blyden.
The 6-foot-3 combo guard from Broward College in Davie, Florida, played in 30 games as a freshman averaging 9.4 points and 3.6 rebounds as his team went 22-8. He spent much of his sophomore year dealing with injuries and appeared in 29 games, averaging 5.0 points.
“Kyanti is a dynamic athlete who our fans will enjoy watching. He has the ability to score in a number of ways, he shoots the three with high efficiency and finishes at the rim,” said Husson head coach Warren Caruso. “Kyanti will make an impact on our success next season, he had a very good career at Broward. He should make a smooth transition as he is a past team mate with Raheem Anderson.”
Blyden played at Flanagan High School and as a senior year averaged 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists. Hew was named second-team All-Broward County. He lead Flanagan to a 16-9 record and a district semifinal appearance.
SMCC coach honored
SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — Southern Maine Community College’s Ray Magnant has been named the Yankee Small College Conference Softball Coach of the Year, announced Tuesday, May 9 and voted on by all four YSCC softball coaching staffs.
In his first season leading the Seawolves softball program, Magnant guided the SMCC to a 16-5 overall record and a 9-1 mark in conference play. It was the program’s highest win total since 2011-2012 season.
SMCC produced a YSCC Player of the Year Kaylah Abdul, three all-conference selections in Kaylah Abdul, Elle Burbank and Kristen Mackenzie, and three United States Collegiate Athletic Association All-Americans (Abdul, Burbank, and Sarah Guimond).
“It means the world to me! I never thought I would come in my first year to find this level of success and reach the conference championship game,” Magnant said in a release. “It’s easy to win Coach of the Year when you have a great assistant like Dennis (Howe) and a tremendous group of young ladies willing to put the time in each and every day—they did all the work, I just push them to be their best!”
