Portland police are asking for the public’s help locating an elderly man who went missing Monday evening.

Lt. Robert Martin of the Portland Police Department said in a late morning news release Wednesday that Ronald Parson, 84, suffers from mild dementia with paranoia, and a satellite tracking device he was supposed to wear was found discarded in the woods near his residence on Canco Road.

“Ronald is in excellent physical condition and his family describes him as a woodsman who would routinely take long walks,” Martin wrote, in part. “[But he] has no cellphone, money or credit cards and no access to a vehicle. His family is very concerned for his safety and well-being.”

Parson lives at The Woods at Canco, a living facility at 257 Canco Road, and was last seen eating dinner with other residents there in the dining room around 5:30 p.m. Monday.

He is described as a white male, 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 145 pounds, with gray hair. Portland police said he has a hunched back and typically walks with a walking stick, shuffling along slowly. He was last seen wearing a pair of army green cargo pants and a red New England Patriots hat.

Anyone who sees Parson is being asked to contact the Portland Police Department at 207-874-8575.
