A Lewiston man’s brother was killed in a truck bomb explosion Saturday night in Mogadishu, Somalia, the Sun Journal newspaper reported.
Iman Osman, 27, told the newspaper his brother, Iman Abdalla, had been working in Mogadishu as an ambulance driver and was walking home after collecting his pay when the truck exploded about 1,000 feet away, killing him.
Osman told the Sun Journal he spoke or texted his brother, the father of eight children with a ninth on the way, almost daily.
“He was a nice guy,” Osman told the newspaper. “He was friendly. He used to talk to my 2-year-old son.”
The truck bomb is being blamed on the terrorist group Al-Shabab. The explosion reportedly killed more than 300 people and is considered the deadliest single terrorist attack in the country’s history.
Osman and his brother both fled Somalia when they were younger, but Abdalla returned to the country last year hoping conditions there would be better under its new government, the Sun Journal reported.
