Senior offensive lineman Jamil Demby and sophomore running back Josh Mack have been named to the All-New England Football Team.

Demby, a 6-foot-5, 335-pound offensive lineman, previously earned a spot on the All-Colonial Athletic Association first team. He started all 10 games at left tackle and led an offensive line that paved the way for the Football Championship Subdivision rushing leader Mack and allowed a league-low 19 sacks.

Mack, a 6-1, 198-pound running back, was also named to the All-CAA first team. His 1,335 rushing yards were tops in the FCS during the regular season and the fourth highest single-season total in UMaine history.

Mack, who earned his first All-CAA honor, also led the nation in rushing yards per game (133.5) and ranked third in all-purpose yards per game (161.5). He ran for 100-plus yards in seven of Maine’s 10 games, including two 200-yard efforts. He was the CAA leader in rushing touchdowns (9) and yards per carry (5.49).

Colby player recognized

Colby College sophomore Georgia Cassidy (Darien, Conn.) has claimed her second postseason award after being named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association New England West Region Second Team.

Cassidy, a University of North Carolina transfer, had already been named to the New England Small College Athletic Conference All-Conference Second Team.

She tied the team’s single-season goal scoring record and helped the Mules finish 9-6. Cassidy was sixth in the NESCAC in goals (15) and is tied with three-time All-American Wendy Bonner for Colby’s single-season goal scoring record.

She also had three assists and ranked seventh in the league in points (33). She tallied three game-winning goals.

Saint Joseph’s staff feted

Saint Joseph’s College men’s soccer head coach Adrian Dubois and assistants Michael Sanfilippo, Kyle Shangraw and Will Pike have been selected as the 2017 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III New England Region Coaching Staff of the Year.

Dubois, who recently completed his fourth year with the Monks, is 50-24-9 (.676) with a 33-2-7 (.943) conference record since coming to Saint Joseph’s in 2014. He has won two Great Northeast Athletic Conference Coach of the Year accolades and guided the Monks to the conference tournament in each of his four seasons.

All three of the Monks’ assistant coaches are college alumni. Sanfilippo played four years and helped St. Joe’s claim two GNAC titles. Pike, a Division I transfer from Mount St. Mary’s, set numerous goalkeeping records in two seasons and Shangraw earned several postseason accolades in one season at Saint Joseph’s.

Saint Joseph’s posted the finest season in the 29-year history of the program this fall, going 19-0-2 with a 9-0-1 GNAC record. For the second consecutive year, the Monks captured the conference championship and advanced to the NCAA tournament.

St. Joe’s clinched the first national tourney win in team history with a 2-1 triumph over Mitchell College and held defending national champion Tufts University scoreless before falling to the Jumbos in penalty kicks in the second round.
