TOPSHAM, Maine — A school bus stopped in a line of traffic was rear-ended Thursday afternoon by a Nissan, sending the drivers of both vehicles to the hospital with minor injuries.
Topsham police went to Route 196 near Atlantic Regional Federal Credit Union at about 4:40 p.m. Thursday, where a 2009 Nissan had rear-ended a School Administrative District 75 school bus as both headed east, Topsham police Sgt. Mark Gilliam said Friday.
The driver of the Nissan, Adria Hahnel, 65, of Lewiston, apparently fell asleep, Gilliam said.
She and the driver of the bus, Connie Lailer, 47, of Bristol, were taken to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, treated and released.
The Nissan was totaled, Gilliam said, but the bus sustained only minor damage to the bumper.
