Bangor public works director’s 32-year career ended the day of a snowstorm
–After 32 years with the Bangor public works department, outgoing director Dana Wardwell’s last day on the job could have been quieter.
But it happened to be the day of Bangor’s first significant snowfall of the season, which dumped a half-foot of snow on the city and scrambled dozens of plow drivers into action.
Former UMaine pitcher charged with raping six women in Delaware
–Clay Conaway, who attended UMaine during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 school years before transferring to the University of Delaware, allegedly committed the sexual assaults over the past five years.
UMaine officials said they received no reports of sexual misconduct when he was a student.
Pakistani man whose country won’t let him back home sentenced to 8 months in prison
–Zafar Iqbal-Khan, who has been living in the Bangor area for at least a decade, in June pleaded guilty to violating the conditions under which he was allowed to stay in the U.S. by committing new crimes. He was arrested last year for drunken driving, driving without a license and failure to give a correct name.
Thorndike restorer of old things dies at 87
–Joe Bryant, a lifelong tinkerer and inventor whose passion for antique stoves, toys and breathing new life into old objects led him and his wife to start one of Maine’s most eclectic museums, died on Saturday.
UMaine football team defied odds to win CAA championship
–The University of Maine football team was dealt a tragic blow before the season even began, on July 24, when freshman defensive back Darius Minor collapsed and died of a heart condition during a workout on Morse Field.
The team dedicated the season to Minor and took his No. 39 jersey to road games.
