A South Portland woman hit crossing the street Saturday evening is in stable condition at a Portland hospital.
Wendy Livingston, 64, was not in the crosswalk near 625 Broadway about 5 p.m. when she was hit by a Pontiac Bonneville. South Portland police Lt. Tom Bernard said Livingston was taken to Maine Medical Center with serious injuries that weren’t life-threatening.
Nursing supervisor Heidi St. Peter said she could not reveal the type of injuries nor how long Livingston would be in the hospital.
A Subaru driven by Benjamin Azarovitz, 21, of Stowe, Vermont, had stopped to let Livingston cross the road, according to a police report.
Azarovitz’s Subaru was then hit by a Pontiac Bonneville driven by Justin McCormack, 22, of Portland. The Bonneville, which was following too closely according to the police report, swerved but struck the Subaru and then hit Livingston.
The area, near the intersection of Broadway and Cottage Road, has a big apartment building, library, single-family houses, and Holy Cross church and school in the neighborhood.
South Portland police investigated the crash, Bernard said. The Maine State Police reconstructed the crash.
