Power has been restored in Waldo County after thousands of people in several communities were left without power Friday afternoon when a Central Maine Power pole was damaged near the substation in Prospect.

The powerline damage, which occurred on Fort Knox Road in Prospect, was repaired Friday evening, according to a 6:48 p.m. release from Dale Rowley, director of the Waldo County Emergency Management Agency.

All of Winterport and parts of Stockton Springs, Prospect and Searsport were affected, the utility said. Altogether, more than 3,000 customers of the electric utility were affected.

Repairs were expected to take four to five hours, a Waldo County Emergency Management Agency official wrote on the organization’s Facebook page at about 2 p.m. Friday.

With temperatures in the teens, emergency warming stations were opened in the Winterport town office, the Stockton Springs town office, the Prospect Community Center and the Frankfort Congregational Church. Those warming centers have now shut down since the powerline has been repaired.
