The defending 2018 state champion Monmouth Academy girls defeated Carrebec 41-20 Tuesday night in a Class C South preliminary game.

The No. 6 seed entered the tournament with a 14-4 record. No. 11 Carrabec ends the season with a 7-12 record.

Monmouth Academy will go on to face North Yarmouth Tuesday, Feb. 19 in the quarterfinals.

Monmouth Academy defeated Houlton in last year’s Class C state championship game, winning 56-50.
