A man and his 6-year-old stepson died Monday after their vehicle crashed head on with a Concord Coach Lines bus in Thomaston.

The identities of the man and child are not yet being released, according to Thomaston Police Chief Tim Hoppe. They were from Warren.

The car struck the regional bus about 9:15 a.m. on Route 1 near the intersection with Route 131, creating a chain-reaction crash involving at least four vehicles, including a dump truck.

The man and child were pronounced dead at the scene. A woman in one of the other vehicles that was involved was taken to a hospital in Lewiston via Lifeflight. However, Hoppe did not know her condition as of Monday afternoon.

What caused the vehicle to cross the center line and collide with the bus is not yet known, Hoppe said.
