The man who died in a house fire following an explosion at a Stonington residence on Aug. 14 has been identified.

David Crutcher, 71, was found in the charred rubble of the 160 Fifield Point Road residence after a fire completely destroyed the home, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Safety. Crutcher’s identity was confirmed on Tuesday, the Ellsworth American reported.

Crutcher lived alone at the house.  No other injuries or deaths due to the fire were reported.

The cause of the explosion and fire is still under investigation by the state fire marshal’s office.
